LowDown presents Velvet Nights, a smooth jazz series showcasing renowned national artists on the fourth Friday of the month from May through November. Experience world-class talent up close in an intimate, speakeasy setting. Hosted by internationally acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Michael Fields Jr., Velvet Nights offers an unforgettable night of soulful sound and grooves.

ABOUT DEMETRIUS NABORS:
Demetrius “Krayon” Nabors is a Detroit-based pianist, composer, and producer whose music blends jazz, gospel, classical, and blues into a deeply expressive and emotionally resonant sound. Known for his dynamic touch and intuitive improvisation, his playing creates moments that invite listeners to pause, reflect, and connect.
A two-time Detroit Music Award winner for Outstanding Gospel/Christian Musician, Nabors holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Jazz Studies from the University of Michigan. His career has taken him to stages across the United States, Europe, and Africa, along with national television appearances including The Arsenio Hall Show.
As a producer and collaborator, Nabors has worked with artists such as KEM, Althea Rene, Tim Bowman, and Willie Bradley, contributing to multiple Billboard-charting projects. His credits include several #1 hits, including KEM’s “Nobody” and “It’s You,” with “Nobody”earning a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional R&B Performance. In addition, Nabors has released multiple Billboard-charting singles, including several Top 30 placements on the Smooth Jazz charts.
As a recording artist, Nabors has released a range of albums, EPs, and singles that reflect both his musical and personal journey, including the A Journey Within series, Perseverance(2021), Evolution (2022), and his recent single “Chosen,”which was added to SiriusXM Watercolors in 2026.
At the heart of his work is a commitment to creating meaningful musical experiences—whether through live performance, recording, or intimate moments at the piano—where connection takes precedence over complexity, and every note has purpose.
