After a long year of writing music for short films; teaching and traveling to various parts of the country, Edwin Canito Garcia will present compositions for his newly inspired project and dedication to the life of Dominick Stephens, entitled “The 86th DJ” on Thursday, February 8 at LowDown. The 86th DJ is a collection of compositions that include many facets and genres of music mixed with lush harmonies of neo-soul and jazz. The quartet consists of Edwin Garcia (bass), Nick Mancini (vibraphone and synthesizers), Willie Peterson (drums), and Clayton Roffey (guitar). ABOUT EDWIN GARCIA Edwin Canito, bandleader and bassist, is originally from the Lower East Side of NYC and has traveled around the world playing music for the past 20 years. He has performed and studied with such Jazz notables as, Phil Woods, Arturo O’Farrill & the Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra, Paul Bollenback, Tim Ries from the Rolling Stones, Freddie Bryant Trio, and more. Edwin has also instructed as an adjunct professor or guest artist at Northeastern State University, Oklahoma University, HOSTOS in NYC, and Brooklyn Academy of Music BAM, and actively travels performing with various groups in the mid-west, Nashville, NYC, and Phoenix areas. His most recent projects have included composing music for short films, Hip-hop, and Neo Soul recordings, and continues to perform, produce, and record music for his Latin Jazz and Salsa band, Mezclave.
