Over the past 18 months, Tucker has amassed an astounding combined audience of one million followers with the largest delegation arriving via the Tik Tok platform. Her video commentary and original songs have been featured with HBO, FX, OWN Network, Revolt! TV and Ebony/Jet. Tucker makes her return to Lowdown on June 9th in support of her new release. Her sound and scope provides needed catharsis in a post-pandemic world with emphasis on self-reflection, mental wellness and, ultimately, healing. As evidenced on Dara Starr Tucker, the singer is making her mark by blending the melodic, soulful strains of jazz with the lyrical richness of the central plains. "My desire is that people would sense a unity between the content I share online, and the music I make on the stage - it all comes from the same place," Tucker said. In performance, Tucker showcases lively originals alongside inspired arrangements of modern and classic songs by writers such as Billie Eilish, Bill Withers, John Denver, Hoagy Carmichael and Kurt Weill. Tucker's striking compositions are equal parts contemplation and commentary and undoubtedly elevates her standing as a premier contemporary songwriter in the jazz space. Tucker has toured with her own bands and as a featured vocalist with hybrid guitarist Charlie Hunter's group. Additionally, she has opened for Grammy-winning vocalist Gregory Porter, appeared on NPR's Jazz Night in America and made her national television debut on The Tavis Smiley Show on PBS. Tucker's previous album, "Dreams of Waking: Music For A Better World" remained on the charts for 26 weeks and peaked at #7 on the JazzWeek charts in the U.S. Personnel: Dara Starr Tucker (vocals) Mike King (piano) Greg Bryant (bass) Marcus Finnie (drums)
