ABOUT MEZCLAVE: MEZCLAVE brings Afro-Caribbean rhythms and a unique mix of Neo-Soul, Jazz and traditional Salsa to each song, creating a one-of-a-kind SALSA performance. If you’ve ever wanted to learn to dance to the hot fiery rhythms of this Caribbean and Jazz mixture, this show is for you! Edwin Canito was inspired to start this group in the year 2000. His influences and inspiration from the music of Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Conjunto Libre, and the “FANIA” era of salsa music and traditional jazz artists like Joe Henderson, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, and many more. Angela LeBron Garcia: Co-Founder Percussionist NYC-born Puerto Rican Percussionist, Angela LeBron Garcia, a student of the notable Latin jazz bassist Victor Venegas, resides originally from the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Angela has studied minor percussion in the idiom of Latin jazz and salsa music for over 50 years and has had the opportunity to perform & study with salsa legends such as Oscar D’ Leon, Richie Flores & Frank Valdes. Edwin “Canito” Garcia: Co-Founder Bassist, Educator, Producer Edwin Canito is a NYC-born Puerto Rican Bassist who has had the opportunity to play music in NYC and the greater Oklahoma area for the past 20 years. He has performed and studied with such notables as, Phil Woods, Arturo O’Farrill & the Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra, Paul Bollenback, Tim Ries (Rolling Stones), Ray Ruiz “El Maelo”, Peter Brainin Group, Freddie Bryant Trio, and more. Edwin currently travels to perform with various groups in the Midwest, Nashville, NYC, Phoenix, and occasionally other venues across the United States. Jon Bueno: Conguero/ Percussionist Jon grew up around Latin percussion instruments as a child and was exposed to all types of music from a very young age thanks to his father. He was first introduced to Latin jazz in the 80s by his Venezuelan grandfather and started out playing with jam bands around 1999. For the last 20 years, he has been using that knowledge and discipline in the rhythm sections of numerous bands, from funk to jazz, to fusion, and even Afro-Cuban folkloric ensembles. In 2005 Jon shared a stage with Brian Haas and Edwin Garcia… he was invited to join Edwin Canito’s Latin Jazz Ensemble, “Mezclave” a few days later and has been a key member of the Mezclave group since. Michael Bremo: Percussion master and educator Michael Bremo, known to many as "Bremo" was born and raised on the island of Aruba, and is now based in Tulsa Oklahoma. Bremo is a well-versed percussionist in various styles of music, especially world music and jazz. His versatility has made him a musician on demand internationally, where he has toured and performed at world-renowned festivals. He currently sits as an adjunct professor for many of the local universities and holds an M.M. in commercial jazz Studies from UCO in Edmond, Okla. Nick Mancini: Vibraphonist/Marimbaist and Composer Nick Mancini’s undergrad studies earned him an A.S. from Schenectady County Community College and a B.M. (with honors) from The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam and then moved to NYC to attend Manhattan School of Music. He has performed and recorded with Arturo Sandoval, Peter Erskine, Poncho Sanchez, and Kenny Werner. As both a band leader and side man, Nick has appeared at some of New York’s most notable venues such as Apollo Theater, Birdland, and Joe’s Pub. Vic Anderson: Saxophonist, flutist, and multi-instrumentalist [Bag Pipes] of Tulsa Edison High School. Studied music at the Vic Anderson studied at the University of North Texas in Denton and worked in the DFW area. He has been a staple for the Tulsa Jazz community for over 30 years as a sideman for orchestral and jazz performances.
